Abraham was NOT the first Jew. He was not even an Israelite. Jews came into existence through Jacob’s fourth son, Judah, and the name Israel came into existence when it was bestowed on Jacob after he wrestled with the Angel.
Lastly, the Modern State of Israel is a misnomer. It should be called the Modern State of Judah. When the twelve tribes bifurcated into the ten tribes of The House of Israel, and the two tribes into The House of Judah as outlined in 1 Kings 12. Please read this. There has been no re-uniting of the twelve tribes of Israel. The House of Israel is lost. That’s why the Modern State of Israel is really The Modern State of Judah. Of course the name will not be changed from The Modern State of Israel to its correct name of The Modern State of Judah, because that would mean a greater reduction of land mass. Shalom.
Abraham was not the first Jew. He was not even a Jew. Jews come from the son of Jacob whose name was Judah.
I’m astonished a rabbi would make such a statement saying Abraham was the first Jew.
