Ask the Rabbi - Customs and Practices

9th of Av

Q: Should Noahides mourn and fast on the Ninth of Av?

Q: Rabbi, Could you tell please what you think of the 9th of Av and Bnei Noach? Should we fast or at least mourn? Thank you, Ahava

A: The Ninth of Av is the day in which the ability of the Jewish people to serve as a light for the nations suffered serious harm. The Temple of Jerusalem was the spiritual center of the entire world. Its destruction has serious consequences for every righteous person in the world. Therefore it is appropriate for Bnei Noach to mourn or fast on this day because the events of the day concern them too.
