The importance of the shofar on Rosh Hashanah

A video by Rav Cherki on the subject of blowing the shofar.

The main mitzva of Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year – is to hear the sound of the shofar. The main point is that the mitzva is to listen, as opposed to other religions, where the important element is an image. Hearing maintains the purity of the Divine message.

So the Torah begins a new year by developing the ability to listen, to recognize G-d as one who has a voice, which He wants mankind to hear.
